国产一区二区三区精品福利 Emphasizes the Importance of Physician Leadership in Health Care Amid Global Workforce Shortages

The 国产一区二区三区精品福利 (WMA) has adopted a newly revised Statement on Scope of Practice, Task Sharing and Task Shifting. The policy emphasizes that health workforce reforms to promote universal access to care must advance patient access to physicians and physician-led healthcare teams, prioritizing patient safety, quality of care, and professional ethics.

The newly revised policy reflects evolving global health workforce realities and terminology introduced by the World Health Organization. The updated text distinguishes between task shifting (the transfer of clinical duties to less qualified personnel) and task sharing, which refers to structured collaboration within multidisciplinary health teams under appropriate supervision and regulation.

The WMA鈥檚 new policy asserts that multi-disciplinary health care teams should always be led and coordinated by a physician, whose education, clinical experience, and ethical obligations place them in the best position to ensure safe and effective patient care.聽

It warns that allowing non-physician health personnel to independently perform physicians鈥 tasks increases the risks of misdiagnosis, inappropriate treatment, and fragmented care.聽 Addressing healthcare workforce shortages through improper task shifting not only lowers quality of care, but also creates inequities, as lower-resourced communities are often the ones relegated to non-physician care.

鈥淗ealthcare reforms must never be driven by cost alone,鈥 said Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu, President of the 国产一区二区三区精品福利. 鈥淪hifting complex medical responsibilities to less trained personnel without proper oversight not only threatens patient safety but also undermines the integrity of the health system. Sustainable solutions lie in investing in education, supervision, and fair working conditions for all health professionals, especially physicians, whose leadership remains essential to the coordination of safe and ethical care.鈥

The WMA also called on governments and health authorities to consult physicians and their representative organizations when considering any reforms affecting the scope of medical practice, and to ensure that roles, responsibilities, and legal liabilities are clearly defined and communicated to patients.
